Comfortable Means Not Growing

Writer's picture: Justin Smith Justin Smith

I recently did an exercise that I usually don't do. After, I was sore in places I didn't even know could be sore.

Before, I had been doing the same kind of exercise for a while and hadn't been sore in months.

This new exercise got me out of my comfort zone. It was different, fun, challenging, and impactful. By getting sore I knew I was growing and stretching.

I began to think about my work habits too. Where have I been running on autopilot? Where have I been happy with being comfortable? Why aren't I getting sore?

The principle of comfort and growth applies to many areas of life. Here are a few questions you can ask yourself.

When is the last time you have been sore?

What was once a stretch but now is easy?

Where can you say yes to discomfort?

Where do you need to adjust your current output to move toward greater growth?

Here are some areas you can consider in light of these questions.

Physical Fitness, Work habits, Financial Stewardship, Personal Growth, Spiritual Disciplines, Relational Connectedness.
